National Art
Museum (MUNAL) is the most beautiful museum in Mexico City, his beautiful
palace was created by an italian architect
called Silvio Contri and finished in 1911.
The building
style is eclectic, (a mix between gothic and classic), with a lot symbolic
elements, product of industrializatión´s
time. The palace have one of the most ornate stairways in the city. At the
begining was the communication palace, but in 1981 it was converted in National
Art Museum.
The National
Art Museum has 3,338 works, who represent a global perspective of mexican art
and is one of the most important cultural enclosure in Latin America. The
permanent collection includes a number
of large- scale religious paintings, and important sculptures of Manuel Tolsá,
Jesús Contreras, and a big collection of
José María Velasco Painting´s between others important mexican artists.
We recommend
especially the exhibition I´m the King,
and you should pay attention at Miguel Cabrera´s painting call Apocalypse´s virgin and the Jesús
Contreras´s sculpture call Malgré tout. They
ore our favorites.
If you want to
take a photos, you have to pay at the Museum´s reception about $50, and if you
are student the entry´s ticket is free. The Museum have a book store where you
can buy art books, gifts or cds.
When you finish
you visit, you can see the sculpture of Caballito, front of the building of the Museum, a
awesome and important Manuel Tolsá´s sculpture.
You can visit
another Museums in the historical downtown of Mexico City, or only walk and
discover a great and beautiful places.

ReplyDeleteThat place is amazing, but also has an interesting history... When I studied history of medicine, we did a tour by many hospitals in function o places that years ago were hospitals, and at the place where the MUNAL is, before this building existed The Ancient Saint Andrew's Hospital, years after that this was the Palace of telecommunications and in that time is when I first went to that building, when the offices of Telegrafos Mexicanos existed there, my parents work there and I went to a daycare in the top floor...
By the way, in the right wing (I think) it's also another museum "The Telegraph museum" a very interesting place, I hope in your next visit you can also visit it.
